Contravision
May 2015
In collaboration with Michelle van Ool
Contravision is a setup were eight participants are connected with each other through vision. While wearing masks you don’t see your own view, but the vision of the person you are connected with. Therefore, it is very hard to navigate in the beginning. Once your partner will look at you by coincidence, you will see yourself. From that moment you can navigate through the space through the other person’s perception.

During the experiments we found some natural reflexes that occur. When one person looks down, the other one will immediately start looking up. Because you want to see what is in front of you to orientate. This will only keep getting worse, until both persons realise what they are doing and start correcting themselves.
